BREAKING NEWS: Nick Saban Returns to Alabama as Special Advisor..

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide football program will once again have Nick Saban in the building though not on the sidelines. Head Coach Kalen DeBoer announced Wednesday that the legendary former coach will return to the program in an official capacity as Special Advisor to the Head Coach.

Saban, 72, retired in January after a storied 17-year run at Alabama, during which he won seven national championships six with the Tide and cemented his status as one of the greatest coaches in college football history. His return marks the first formal role he has held with the program since stepping away, and signals a continued influence on the team’s direction under DeBoer.

“This is an incredible opportunity to have Coach Saban’s wisdom and experience available to our staff and players,” DeBoer said in a statement. “He has built the standard here, and his insights will be invaluable as we continue to uphold that tradition of excellence.”

As Special Advisor, Saban will not be involved in day-to-day coaching or recruiting, but will serve as a strategic consultant for program planning, leadership development, and culture building. Sources indicate he will attend select practices, participate in staff meetings, and be a sounding board for DeBoer and his assistants.

Saban expressed excitement at the chance to contribute in a new way. “Alabama football means a great deal to me,” he said. “I’m looking forward to supporting Coach DeBoer and this program any way I can to help the Tide be successful.”

The move comes as Alabama prepares for its Aug. 30 season opener against Florida State, DeBoer’s first game at the helm. With Saban’s familiar presence back in Tuscaloosa, the Tide faithful are buzzing at the prospect of blending new leadership with a championship legacy.
