BREAKING: Chance Mallory re-commits to Virginia Basketball..

They say if you truly love something, let it go if it returns, it was meant to be.

For Chance Mallory and Virginia, that sentiment rings true. Five months after decommitting and six months after his initial commitment, Mallory announced on Saturday that he’s officially heading to Charlottesville to play for new head coach Ryan Odom. Odom, who previously recruited him at VCU, now gets to coach him at UVA in a full-circle moment.

After stepping back from his commitment following Tony Bennett’s retirement, Mallory kept Virginia in consideration but explored other options, taking official visits to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Maryland, and Virginia Tech. In the end, though, the Charlottesville native never truly wanted to leave home.

A four-star recruit, St. Anne’s-Belfield senior, and the No. 3 player in Virginia, Mallory is a major addition for the Cavaliers and an excellent start to Odom’s tenure. One of the top point guards in the 2025 class, he brings a unique skill set to the team. During his senior year, he averaged 26 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 40% from three. A natural scorer, he has elite finishing ability, impressive body control, and a confident, creative approach with the ball in his hands.

At 5-foot-9, Mallory has heard doubts about his size throughout his recruitment, but he’s used them as fuel to elevate his game. His offensive explosiveness, sharp shooting, quickness, toughness, and relentless mentality set him apart. And come fall 2025, that talent will be on full display in orange and blue at John Paul Jones Arena.
