Bill Chisholm just made first move as Celtics owner and it’s perfect..

The Boston Celtics have officially changed hands. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, William Chisholm, co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, has purchased the team for a record-breaking $6.1 billion. This transition comes after Wyc Grousbeck announced his intention to sell following the Celtics’ 2024 NBA Championship victory, and now, that plan has become reality.

Chisholm, a private equity executive, might raise some concerns among fans worried about ownership priorities. However, there are reasons for optimism. He’s a lifelong Celtics fan from Georgetown, Massachusetts, and according to ‘The Boston Globe’s’ Adam Himmelsbach, he plans to buy a home in Boston, watches every game, and has an “encyclopedic knowledge” of the team.

Keeping Wyc Grousbeck Involved

In his first major move as owner, Chisholm has chosen to retain Wyc Grousbeck in a leadership role. Grousbeck shared the news via ‘Business Wire’, praising Chisholm’s deep connection to the team and the city.

“Bill is a terrific person and a true Celtics fan, born and raised here in the Boston area,” Grousbeck said. “His love for the team and the city, along with his chemistry with the Celtics leadership, makes him a natural fit as the next Governor and controlling owner. He’s passionate about winning and committed to the community. Quite simply, he wants to be a great owner.”

Grousbeck also revealed that Chisholm has asked him to remain as CEO and Governor for the next three years and to continue as his partner beyond that an encouraging sign for continuity.

For years, Grousbeck has worked to position the Celtics as perennial contenders, and Chisholm’s decision to keep him on board suggests he values that foundation. While it remains to be seen how Chisholm will operate as an owner, this move is a promising start. Now, it’s time to see if he can back up his commitment to success both on and off the court.
