The Battle For WVU Football’s Top 2026 QB Recruit Continues: The Brodie McWhorter Story..

Brodie McWhorter’s Recruitment Journey with WVU Football: A Roller Coaster Ride

Less than a year after committing to West Virginia University’s football program, Class of 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter has experienced a whirlwind recruitment process. With scholarship offers from 25 Power 4 programs, including WVU, McWhorter is ranked among the top 15 quarterbacks in his class by Rivals.

WVU fans were optimistic last June when McWhorter initially pledged his commitment to the Mountaineers. However, the landscape changed dramatically in December 2024 when former WVU head coach Neal Brown was fired. By December 2, McWhorter announced his decommitment, reopening his recruitment process amid interest from powerhouse programs like Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon.

For many recruits, a coaching change signals the end of their relationship with a school, but WVU’s new head coach, Rich Rodriguez, saw McWhorter’s talent as too valuable to ignore. Rodriguez, who had previously offered McWhorter while coaching at Jacksonville State, quickly re-engaged in recruiting the quarterback. In January, McWhorter shared images from his conversations with Rodriguez, including a visit from the coach to McWhorter’s high school in Georgia.

McWhorter recently teased that his list of top schools would be released soon, leaving WVU fans in suspense about whether the Mountaineers would make the cut. The program’s recruitment efforts received a potential boost with the return of ‘Pat White’, a WVU legend and former star quarterback, who joined the staff as an offensive assistant. McWhorter even shared a photo with White during a recent visit to Morgantown.

While McWhorter remains uncommitted, WVU’s new coaching staff is actively working to bring him back into the fold. Whether their efforts will succeed remains to be seen, but the battle for McWhorter’s signature is far from over.
