Azzi Fudd Shares Sympathy for UConn Opponents Facing Paige Bueckers..

The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team has been unstoppable in their first two games of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, outscoring their opponents by a staggering 103 points combined.

While UConn was heavily favored to win these matchups, even their demanding head coach, Geno Auriemma, must be pleased with the team’s dominant performances. The standout moment from their March 24 victory over South Dakota came from star guard Paige Bueckers, who delivered a spectacular performance, matching her NCAA career-high with 34 points on an impressive 14-of-21 shooting. She also contributed 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds.

Following the game, Bueckers and her teammate Azzi Fudd who recently announced she’ll return to UConn for another season rather than enter the 2025 WNBA Draft spoke to the media. Fudd had high praise for Bueckers, highlighting just how difficult she is to defend.

“It’s incredible to watch [Bueckers] because you almost feel sorry for the other team,” Fudd said, as shared in an NCAA March Madness post on X. “When Paige is locked in, there’s nothing you can do to stop her. It doesn’t matter what shots she takes the ball is going to go in.”

Fudd, who watched much of the game from the bench, admitted she enjoyed witnessing Bueckers’ masterclass up close. “She makes it look so easy,” she added. “We have all the trust in the world in her, so I just got to sit back and enjoy the Paige show.”

With a maximum of four games left as teammates, Fudd is clearly savoring every moment of Bueckers’ brilliance on the court.
