The Arizona State Sun Devils found themselves in a tough spot after Adam Miller’s ejection during their home game against TCU. Already missing injured five-star freshman Jayden Quaintance, coach Bobby Hurley was left with only six players for the final 16:37. Despite a valiant effort, ASU fell short in a 74-70 loss to the Horned Frogs, marking their fifth consecutive defeat and dropping their record to 12-13 (3-11), falling below .500 for the first time this season.
Miller’s ejection came after he voiced his displeasure over a foul call by official Kipp Kissinger, earning him two technical fouls and an immediate exit. This marked Miller’s second ejection in three games, following a flagrant 2 technical during ASU’s narrow loss to Kansas State on February 4, where an altercation with Dug McDaniel led to a one-game suspension under NCAA rules.

Amidst the turmoil, senior guard BJ Freeman has been a beacon of consistency for the Sun Devils. Leading the team with 21 points against TCU, Freeman shot 8-of-16 from the field, including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, while contributing two assists and two rebounds. The Milwaukee transfer, averaging 13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, has scored in double figures in 11 of 13 Big 12 games.
Conversely, freshman Joson Sanon has struggled to find his shooting form. Once among the nation’s top three-point shooters, Sanon’s accuracy has dipped significantly, hitting just 6-of-30 from downtown in his last six games. Since suffering a high ankle sprain on New Year’s Day, his shooting woes have persisted, posing a challenge for ASU’s success in the competitive Big 12.
With a daunting schedule ahead, including matchups against No. 6 Houston, Kansas State, BYU, Utah, Arizona, and Texas Tech, ASU faces an uphill battle. With key players sidelined and Miller likely facing another suspension, the Sun Devils risk closing out their season with 11 consecutive losses.
