Aprilia’s MotoGP team has officially addressed recent reports suggesting Jorge Martin is attempting to exit his contract early, denying any such discussions have occurred.
Following the French Grand Prix, motorsport.com reported that reigning world champion Jorge Martin was exploring a way out of his Aprilia deal by activating a performance clause tied to the bike’s competitiveness by the French GP. Despite having limited track time in 2025 due to injuries, Martin was allegedly not satisfied with Aprilia’s performance and was said to be considering an exit.
Martin has only raced once this season due to multiple injuries and is not expected to return until the German GP in July. The report also indicated that Martin may have offered to delay the performance clause deadline to September, and that he is eyeing a potential move to Honda’s factory team.
On the eve of the British GP at Silverstone, Aprilia issued a firm statement denying the claims. The team emphasized that Martin’s contract is valid through the end of 2026 and must be upheld by both sides.
“The agreement between Aprilia Racing and Jorge Martín is active and must be honored until its conclusion in 2026,” the statement read. “Aprilia has met all its obligations and will continue to do so. No negotiations to alter the contract’s duration have taken place.”
The team also warned rival outfits not to approach riders who are under contract, calling such actions illegitimate. Aprilia reaffirmed its support for Martin during his recovery and expressed eagerness to welcome him back on the RS-GP.
Martin has not yet publicly addressed the situation. Test rider Lorenzo Savadori will continue to substitute for him at Silverstone, the seventh round of the 2025 season. The track holds significance for Aprilia, which earned its first MotoGP podium there in 2021 and a victory with Aleix Espargaro in 2023.
