The Aprilia All-Stars event at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli marked Jorge Martin’s first appearance with Aprilia since his crash at the Qatar MotoGP, where he sustained multiple injuries, including a pneumothorax.
“It was a really positive experience,” Paolo Bonora told MotoGP.com on Thursday from Aragon.
“We had anticipated Jorge’s participation. He received an incredibly warm reception, especially from the fans, but also from the team. It was great to see, and he appreciated it too.”
Martin Back on a Bike—Briefly
Having not ridden since his Qatar accident in April, Martin took to the track at Misano on an Aprilia RS660 road bike. Though the original plan was for him to avoid riding entirely during the event, he couldn’t resist taking a brief 10-lap spin.
“We told him not to ride anything,” Bonora admitted. “But once he saw the RS660, he took it out. We just asked him to take it easy!”
Bonora emphasized this outing was not an official test, but reassured that a proper test will be scheduled ahead of Martin’s return to racing, as permitted under the updated Grand Prix Commission rules decided in Jerez.
As for Martin’s comeback, Bonora revealed it might happen at either the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring or the Czech round in Brno, though no firm decision has been made yet. The team is following medical advice closely.
In a light-hearted moment, Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola also took part in the Misano festivities but unfortunately crashed while riding. Bonora joked that Rivola might need the same cautionary advice in the future.
“The bike was incredibly fast,” Rivola added with a laugh. “We’ll need to look into whether the setup was right for me!”
