Angel Reese notched her 28th career double-double with another standout performance, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Chicago Sky past the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday night. Despite Reese’s relentless energy on both ends of the floor, the Sparks secured a hard-fought 82-75 victory, snapping a two-game losing skid.
Reese finished the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds, continuing her dominant rookie campaign and reinforcing her reputation as one of the league’s most consistent young forwards. Her hustle was on full display, battling for offensive boards and creating second-chance opportunities, but the Sky couldn’t capitalize down the stretch.
The Sparks, led by veteran guard Kia Nurse and standout rookie Cameron Brink, executed in key moments. Brink anchored the defense with multiple blocks and timely rebounds, while Nurse provided crucial perimeter scoring. The Sparks’ depth and poise helped them withstand a late push by the Sky, who had briefly tied the game early in the fourth quarter.
Chicago struggled with turnovers and cold shooting from beyond the arc, finishing just 5-of-21 from three-point range. While Reese kept the team in the fight, the lack of offensive rhythm ultimately cost them.
After the game, Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon praised Reese’s effort, calling her “a relentless competitor” and emphasizing her impact beyond the box score. “She’s doing everything we ask of her defending, rebounding, setting the tone. The rest of the team has to match that intensity,” Weatherspoon said.
With the loss, the Sky fall to 4-6 on the season. They’ll look to regroup quickly as they prepare for a tough matchup against the Las Vegas Aces later this week. For Reese, the double-doubles keep coming but she’s clearly focused on turning effort into wins.
