The recent MotoGP tests in Sepang ended with an unexpected result Álex Márquez, riding for Gresini, topped the timesheets on last year’s Ducati. While the performance raised eyebrows, it’s worth noting that Sepang is a track that suits him well, and at the start of the season, older-spec bikes often have an edge while newer models are still being fine-tuned.
With such a strong showing, speculation quickly arose about whether Álex could challenge for the 2025 title. However, his older brother, eight-time world champion Marc Márquez, was quick to downplay the expectations and remove any added pressure.
“It’s too early for him,” Marc stated when asked if there could be a title battle between the two brothers. “I will never put pressure on my brother. He is enjoying himself right now, and he has a very good feeling on the bike.”
Marc emphasized that the true title pressure belongs to factory riders. “The pressure is for the official riders. In the official team, you must fight for the championship. He’s enjoying it, so he should keep going.”
While Álex Márquez’s performance in testing is promising, Marc’s words suggest that the younger Márquez should focus on his progress rather than immediate championship ambitions. For now, Álex has the freedom to ride without expectations but if he keeps delivering results, the conversation about his title chances may not be far off.
