Alabama linebacker and Mobile native Deontae Lawson has accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl. The announcement was made Thursday on WNSP-FM 105.5’s “The Opening Kickoff.”
Senior Bowl Director of Football Operations Jack Gilmore described Lawson as an ideal NFL prospect, noting his combination of size, athletic ability, intelligence, and instincts. Gilmore said Lawson has the tools to become a full-time NFL starter once he’s fully recovered. Lawson tore his ACL in 2024.
Lawson, Alabama’s defensive signal-caller, was chosen as a permanent team captain for the 2025 season. He’s now one of just 16 players in program history to earn captain honors twice, having also been selected in 2024.
A standout at Mobile Christian, Lawson helped lead the team to the 2019 Class 3A championship game as a junior and was named the Class 3A Lineman of the Year after posting 101 solo tackles and 33 assists.
Lawson and the Crimson Tide are currently preparing for the College Football Playoff. Alabama faces Oklahoma on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. CT in Norman, with the game airing on ABC and ESPN.
The Senior Bowl will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
