100 not out: Marc Marquez pips Bagnaia to Mugello pole.

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) has etched his name into the record books, becoming the first rider in MotoGP history to secure 100 career pole positions. The championship leader edged out teammate Francesco Bagnaia by just 0.059s with a blistering 1:44.169 lap at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, breaking the all-time Mugello lap record in the process. Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) rounded out a thrilling front row, finishing within a tenth of his brother’s time in an electric Q2 session.

 

Q1 Recap: Aldeguer and Fernandez Advance

 

In Q1, Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP) set the initial pace with a 1:45.214 and went slightly faster on his second run. However, Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing) responded with a superb 1:44.894, the first into the 1:44s, comfortably taking the top spot. Late drama saw Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha) briefly bump Fernandez out of the top two, but the Spaniard snatched the final Q2 slot back by just 0.014s. Miller was left disappointed, while Trackhouse celebrated Fernandez’s progression.

 

Q2: Record Pace in a Mugello Showdown

 

Q2 roared into life as Marc Marquez immediately set a new lap record with a 1:44.500. Bagnaia, chasing a fourth straight Italian GP victory, slotted in just 0.048s behind. Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46) briefly held P3, as the likes of Quartararo, Bezzecchi, and Viñales jockeyed for position.

Quartararo briefly stole pole with a stunning third sector but couldn’t hang on, as Bagnaia struck back with a 1:44.228. Then came the final punch: Marc Marquez shaved off more time to reclaim top spot, clinching his landmark 100th pole. It was a phenomenal display, with the front row Marquez, Bagnaia, and Alex Marquez separated by just 0.083s.
