Three New Iron Maiden Members’ Sons Come Together to Release New Song “Rip Off”…

In a bold fusion of legacy and rebellion, three sons of current Iron Maiden members have come together to form a new band, making waves with the release of their debut single, “Rip Off.” The track, a fiery blend of classic heavy metal and modern angst, dropped this week, immediately sparking conversation across the rock and metal communities.

The band—tentatively named Legacy’s End—features Dylan Harris (son of bassist and founding member Steve Harris) on bass and vocals, Zak Smith (son of guitarist Adrian Smith) on lead guitar, and Tom McBrain (son of drummer Nicko McBrain) behind the kit. While each has dabbled in music independently, “Rip Off” marks the first time the trio has collaborated professionally. The song is a blistering, three-and-a-half-minute track that channels the raw energy of early Maiden while injecting a youthful defiance that feels both timely and timeless.

“People expect us to sound like our dads,” said Dylan Harris in a statement accompanying the release. “But we’re not here to ride coattails. ‘Rip Off’ is about exactly that—people thinking they already know what you’re about before you’ve even started.”

The track opens with a gritty bass line reminiscent of Steve Harris’s galloping style but quickly diverges into darker, more aggressive territory. Zak Smith’s guitar work offers a sharp contrast to his father’s melodic flair, leaning into crunchier riffs and experimental solos that nod toward grunge and stoner rock. Meanwhile, Tom McBrain lays down a thunderous yet unpredictable rhythm, occasionally veering into punk-inspired chaos.

Lyrically, “Rip Off” is both a nod to and a rejection of the legacy these young musicians were born into. Lines like “You wrote the rules we never signed / Now we’re tearing down your pantomime” are delivered with venomous conviction, suggesting that the song’s title could be as much a critique of inherited fame as it is a defiant statement of independence.

Critics have already begun weighing in. Kerrang! described “Rip Off” as “a defiant and unrelenting debut from a trio that’s determined to carve its own path,” while Metal Hammer noted the band’s “impressive grasp of dynamics, structure, and tone for a group so young and so heavily scrutinized.”

Still, the band isn’t entirely dismissing their heritage. In a recent interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Tom McBrain acknowledged, “Our dads are legends. We grew up on tour buses and backstage. But we’re not trying to be Iron Maiden 2.0—we’re just trying to be honest. This song is our way of setting the record straight.”

Whether Legacy’s End is a one-off experiment or the beginning of something bigger remains to be seen. But if “Rip Off” is any indication, the trio has no intention of playing it safe—or living in anyone’s shadow.

“Rip Off” is now streaming on all major platforms. A full EP is rumored for later this year, with a small UK club tour in the works. Keep an eye out—this next generation of metal may just be ready to take the throne.
