Healy digs deep to claim Diamond League victory.

Sarah Healy delivered a brilliant final lap to claim victory in the women’s 1500m at the Rome Diamond League, extending her impressive run of form in 2025.

The Dublin runner, who began her outdoor season with a personal best in the 3000m and a third-place finish in Rabat two weeks ago, started off near the back of the field after a blistering early pace. However, she steadily worked her way into contention by the time the bell signaled the final lap.

Kenya’s Susan Ejore made the first move in the closing stages, but she was eventually caught and faded to fifth. Healy, along with Australia’s Sarah Billings, surged forward in the final stretch at the Stadio Olimpico. Billings overtook Healy around the final bend, with her compatriot Abbey Caldwell also launching a strong late sprint. But Healy, the reigning European indoor champion, showed remarkable determination in the last 50 metres to reclaim the lead and secure the win in a season-best 3:59.17. Billings and Caldwell followed in personal bests of 3:59.24 and 3:59.32, respectively.
