A thrilling third-round clash at the 2025 French Open is set between two American stars 7th seed Madison Keys and 31st seed Sofia Kenin. Scheduled for May 31, the match will close out the day’s action on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.
Both players have advanced with authority through the early rounds. Kenin began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Varvara Gracheva and followed it with a hard-fought 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory against former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
Keys has been equally dominant. She opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Australian qualifier Daria Saville and then dispatched Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-3 in the second round.
In their head-to-head history, Keys holds a 3–1 advantage over Kenin. Their most recent meeting was at the 2022 Australian Open, where Keys triumphed 7-6 (2), 7-5. Kenin’s lone victory came on clay at the 2019 Italian Open, winning 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4.
At Roland Garros, Keys holds a 24-12 record, highlighted by a semifinal run in 2018. Kenin, who reached the final in 2020 before losing to Iga Swiatek, has a 13-5 record in Paris.
So far, 2025 has been a strong season for Keys, with two titles to her name, including a Grand Slam win in Melbourne. Her best result on clay this year was a quarterfinal finish in Madrid, where she fell to Swiatek. Kenin’s standout performance of the year also came on clay, reaching the Charleston Open final before losing to Jessica Pegula.
