Usain Bolt Leaves Diners Gobsmacked as He Tucks Into £35 Fish Dinner at Wigan Restaurant with Premier League Cult Hero for Special Reason…

Diners in Wigan were left stunned this week when sprinting legend Usain Bolt casually walked into a local restaurant and ordered a £35 fish dinner – all while seated beside a well-known Premier League cult hero. The unlikely duo turned heads at The Fish Hut, a popular seafood spot in the heart of Wigan, known more for its battered cod than global celebrities.

Bolt, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist, is no stranger to the spotlight, but few expected to see the Jamaican icon in a modest northern town. Even more surprising was his dining companion: none other than former Wigan Athletic striker and fan favourite, Arouna Koné.

The reason for their surprising meetup? A special community project launched by Koné in collaboration with Bolt’s foundation, aiming to support youth development in underserved areas across the UK. The initiative, titled “Sprint to Success,” combines sports mentorship with community engagement – and Wigan, Koné’s old stomping ground, was chosen as the pilot location.

Locals at the restaurant reportedly did double-takes when Bolt entered the premises. One diner, Louise Cartwright, described the moment: “I thought I was seeing things. You don’t expect to look up from your chips and see Usain Bolt queuing up for haddock. He even smiled and said hello – proper gentleman.”

Bolt, dressed casually in a black tracksuit and cap, was relaxed and friendly with staff and fans alike. According to restaurant owner Paul Higginson, Bolt ordered the £35 “Fisherman’s Feast” – a large platter that includes cod, scampi, calamari, and chips, served with house tartar sauce and mushy peas.

“He loved it,” Higginson said. “Said it was some of the best fish he’s ever had – though I think he was being polite! He even took a photo with the staff before leaving.”

The presence of Arouna Koné added a nostalgic flair for Latics fans, many of whom still remember his key role in Wigan’s historic 2013 FA Cup win. Koné, now retired from professional football, has remained involved in youth sports and sees the partnership with Bolt as a natural extension of his passion.

“We want to inspire the next generation,” Koné told local media. “Sport has the power to change lives, and with Usain’s global reach and experience, we can do something meaningful here in Wigan.”

The duo spent the rest of the day visiting youth centres and sports facilities, even taking time for an impromptu foot race with local schoolchildren – which, predictably, Bolt won with ease.

Their visit created a buzz across social media, with fans praising the down-to-earth nature of both men. One tweet read: “Usain Bolt in Wigan, eating fish and chips with Koné – what a time to be alive.”

As the “Sprint to Success” project gears up for launch this summer, Wigan residents can take pride in knowing their town played host to one of the fastest men on Earth – and served him a fish supper he won’t soon forget.
