Jordan Harrison Announces Double Signing to WVU Women’s Basketball, Ushering in a New Chapter for the Mountaineers…

Morgantown, WV – A new era is underway for West Virginia University women’s basketball as head coach Jordan Harrison made headlines this week by announcing the double signing of two high-profile recruits, signaling a bold and promising direction for the program.

Harrison, who took over the Mountaineers with a vision of building a fast-paced, defensively sharp team rooted in toughness and grit, made a major statement by securing commitments from 5-star point guard Aaliyah Johnson of Georgia and versatile forward Camryn Ellis of Ohio — both regarded among the top 100 high school players in the nation.

“This is just the beginning,” Harrison said during Tuesday’s press conference. “These two young women represent everything we want WVU basketball to be — competitive, relentless, and committed to excellence. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the Mountaineer family.”

The announcement comes as Harrison officially begins her first full recruiting cycle since being named head coach in early 2025. Her impact is already being felt. Known for her player development background and relentless energy on the recruiting trail, she’s now adding elite talent to a roster that showed flashes of potential last season but lacked depth and consistency.

Meet the Recruits

Aaliyah Johnson, a 5’8” point guard from Atlanta, is a dynamic floor general who averaged 22 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals per game in her senior season. Ranked as one of the top 10 point guards nationally, she brings speed, leadership, and defensive intensity that perfectly fits Harrison’s uptempo style.

“I chose WVU because Coach Harrison believes in me,” Johnson said. “I want to be part of something new and special — and I know we’re going to build something here.”

Camryn Ellis, a 6’1” forward from Cincinnati, offers versatility at both ends of the floor. With her ability to guard multiple positions, shoot from range, and dominate the glass, she’s expected to make an immediate impact.

“I loved the family atmosphere at West Virginia,” Ellis said. “Coach Harrison’s energy is contagious, and I want to help bring championships to Morgantown.”

Building the Foundation

For Coach Harrison, the signings mark more than just roster additions — they symbolize the beginning of her blueprint to reshape the program into a Big 12 contender.

“These are cornerstone players,” she emphasized. “We’re not just recruiting talent — we’re recruiting culture.”

WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker praised Harrison for her immediate impact, calling the double signing “a strong signal that the future of Mountaineer women’s basketball is in great hands.”

The Mountaineers finished the 2024–25 season with a 17-14 record, narrowly missing the NCAA tournament. With the addition of Johnson and Ellis, and several key returners, expectations are quickly rising for a breakout year in 2025–26.

As the buzz builds in Morgantown, one thing is clear: under Jordan Harrison’s leadership, WVU women’s basketball is entering a bold new chapter — and the foundation is being laid one impactful signing at a time.
