Tributes have poured in from the alpine skiing world following the tragic death of 18-year-old Margot Simond, who lost her life during a training accident in Val d’Isère on Thursday, April 24. The French Ski Federation (FFS) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 1 p.m. on the Envers de Bellevard slope as Simond prepared for the Red Bull Alpine Park event. The event was later cancelled.
In an official statement, the FFS, along with the Savoie Skiing Committee and Les Saisies Sporting Club, expressed profound sorrow over the young skier’s death. “We are devastated by Margot’s passing. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. We stand by them in this time of immense grief,” the statement read.
Simond had recently made a strong impression on the junior circuit. She competed at the 2025 FIS Junior World Championships in Italy and went on to win the French junior slalom title in Les Menuires shortly afterward.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) also paid tribute to Simond through a message shared on social media. Notable names in the sport, including Olympic champions Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn, shared their condolences by posting broken heart and prayer emojis in response.
