Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has earned recognition for her outstanding contributions off the basketball court after being named the recipient of the 2026 Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award.
The WNBA announced on Thursday that Bueckers had won the prestigious honour, which was established in 2008 and named after former basketball star and coach Dawn Staley. The award celebrates players who demonstrate leadership, passion for the sport, commitment to charitable activities and the ability to inspire others.
Speaking about the achievement in a statement released by the league, Bueckers highlighted the importance of giving back through her partnerships and public platform.
She explained that she always tries to incorporate charitable initiatives and community involvement into her professional partnerships. Having benefited from the support of numerous individuals and communities throughout her life, the Dallas guard said she was determined to create similar opportunities for younger generations.
Bueckers added that her community work focuses on areas including sports, education, food security and mentorship. She believes basketball can serve as a powerful platform for bringing people together, strengthening communities and opening doors for those who might otherwise lack opportunities.
Staley also praised Bueckers for receiving the award, describing her as an excellent example of the leadership and compassion the honour represents.
She commended the 2026 recipient for using her influence to support communities and encourage the next generation, adding that her impact extends well beyond basketball.
Meanwhile, Bueckers enjoyed an impressive second season in the WNBA. She averaged 20.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and one steal per game across 42 appearances, while shooting 31 per cent from three-point range.
Her performances helped Dallas secure a place in the WNBA playoffs. However, the Wings’ campaign eventually ended against the Golden State Valkyries, who went on to capture the championship.
Despite the disappointing playoff exit, Bueckers can look back on a productive sophomore campaign, capped by an award recognising her commitment to making a positive difference beyond the game.
