“I’m at Peace” – Auburn’s Hugh Freeze Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Maintains Focus on Program’s Future..

Auburn head coach ‘Hugh Freeze’ revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February, just months after his second losing season with the Tigers. Though initially shaken by the diagnosis, Freeze shared with ESPN that his form of cancer is low-aggressive. Rather than undergoing immediate surgery, the 55-year-old coach has chosen to monitor his condition until January, trusting his faith and focusing on the present.

“I’m at peace,” Freeze said, crediting his family and faith for his strength during this time.

Heading into his third season at Auburn, Freeze believes the program is more stable than ever. Despite back-to-back losing seasons, he emphasized patience, reiterating that rebuilding would take three strong recruiting classes his first two already ranking in the top 10 nationally. Auburn is now heavily invested in NIL deals, with a projected $20 million payroll for 2025.

One of the Tigers’ biggest moves was acquiring ‘Jackson Arnold’, a former Oklahoma quarterback and top dual-threat prospect. Arnold, who faced ups and downs at OU, saw Auburn as a fresh start and values Freeze’s hands-on approach to quarterback development.

On offense, Auburn is showing promise. Freshman receiver ‘Cam Coleman’ is emerging as a leader, and transfers like Eric Singleton Jr. and Horatio Fields have added talent and depth. Last season’s offensive struggles were tied to execution and finishing drives, but Freeze is confident in improvement, especially with kicker ‘Alex McPherson’ returning.

Despite his personal health battle, Freeze’s energy on the field hasn’t wavered. Defensive end ‘Keldric Faulk’ noted that Freeze’s daily presence has inspired the team.

“Every day is a gift,” Freeze said. “And I’m giving my best to these kids, my family, and our fans.”
