Whether or not the WNBA is ready for Paige Bueckers, she is more than prepared to join the league and make an immediate impact just a year after Caitlin Clark’s breakout season. Cameron Brink, who witnessed that rise firsthand, has shared her thoughts on Bueckers’ growing legacy and how her performance in March Madness should be assessed.
During a pregame moment, Bueckers was visibly frustrated with UConn staff for overlooking her. However, she let her game do the talking, delivering a career-best 40-point performance in the Sweet 16 as UConn cruised to an 82-59 victory. Now, she is edging closer to the championship that eluded Clark last year.
Speaking about Bueckers’ legacy, Cameron Brink told *For The Win*:
“Oh, I don’t think so… I think she’s definitely proven who she is. As a player, her accolades are unmatched… I just want her to end up in a good place after the season, and I’m always rooting for her. She’s a close friend of mine. Her, Azzi [Fudd]… I’ve played with them before in USA Basketball. So, I’m just rooting for them… I don’t think winning a championship should affect your legacy. I think it only adds to it, but I don’t think not winning one takes away from what you’ve done.”
Bueckers has already declared for the WNBA Draft, but first, she aims to push UConn further in March Madness. The second-seeded Huskies (34-3), on a 13-game winning streak, will face the winner of Southern California vs. Kansas State in Monday’s regional final. After leading UConn to the Final Four last year, where they fell to Clark and Iowa, Bueckers now has her sights set on a national title before making the jump to the WNBA.
