Caroline Ducharme has embraced a leadership role for the UConn women’s basketball team, providing guidance and support to her teammates despite limited playing time due to injuries. During UConn’s Sweet 16 game, she was seen encouraging Jana El Alfy and Ashlynn Shade, offering both reassurance and constructive criticism.
Although injuries have sidelined her for much of the past two seasons, Ducharme has remained a vital part of the team, acting as a mentor and motivator. Her role on the court may be reduced, but her impact off the court has only grown. She is known for her ability to uplift teammates, hold them accountable, and provide advice in crucial moments.
Freshman Allie Ziebell describes Ducharme as a “big sister” figure, always available for support both on and off the court. Meanwhile, El Alfy appreciates Ducharme’s presence on the bench, noting how she steps in to boost confidence or offer honest feedback when needed. Shade, too, credits Ducharme for consistently pushing her to stay aggressive and believe in herself.
After a 15-month absence, Ducharme made her return to the court in February, gradually working her way back into games. Despite not playing in every matchup, she remains deeply involved, ensuring that her teammates feel supported and encouraged.
Her ability to balance tough love with unwavering support has made her a respected leader within the team. While her journey has been challenging, Ducharme’s selflessness and determination continue to inspire her teammates, proving that leadership goes beyond just minutes on the court.
