Mikaela Shiffrin has revealed that she and fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde are putting their wedding plans on hold.
Olympic skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin has offered fans a candid update on her long-awaited wedding plans with fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, revealing that the couple has decided to put marriage preparations on hold for the foreseeable future.
Speaking exclusively during the 2026 ESPYS in New York, Shiffrin explained that while she and Kilde remain deeply committed to one another, their demanding careers as elite alpine skiers make it difficult to focus on planning a wedding. Instead, the couple is prioritizing spending quality time together whenever their busy competition schedules allow.
“We’re not wedding planning,” Shiffrin said, explaining that the reality of professional skiing means they spend much of the year apart while competing and training around the world. Rather than adding the stress of organizing a wedding, she believes it is more important to enjoy the limited time they have together.
The American skiing superstar added that wedding planning will likely become more realistic once at least one of them retires from professional competition. Until then, the couple is content to let their relationship develop naturally without rushing into setting a wedding date.
Shiffrin and Kilde announced their engagement in April 2024, delighting fans with a series of mountain-themed photographs that showcased Shiffrin’s engagement ring. The announcement came after several years together, having officially confirmed their relationship in 2021.
Since then, they have become one of skiing’s most admired couples, supporting each other through career highs and difficult setbacks. Both athletes have battled injuries while continuing to compete at the highest level, often sharing messages of encouragement on social media and speaking openly about the importance of their partnership.
Despite postponing wedding plans, there is no indication of trouble in their relationship. On the contrary, Shiffrin’s comments suggest the decision is based entirely on practical considerations rather than uncertainty about their future together. She emphasized that making time for each other is more valuable right now than organizing a ceremony.
The timing also reflects an exceptionally busy period for both athletes. Shiffrin recently celebrated another remarkable Olympic achievement by winning the slalom gold medal at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, while Kilde continues working toward returning to top-level competition following serious injuries.
Fans hoping for wedding bells may need to be patient. Shiffrin acknowledged that it “might be a little bit of time” before the couple begins making concrete plans for their big day.
For now, Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde remain focused on their careers, supporting one another through the demands of international skiing while looking ahead to a future together. Although the wedding has been postponed, their engagement remains strong, and both athletes appear happy to wait until life slows down enough for them to celebrate the occasion on their own terms.
