WVU Donor Ken Kendrick Weighs in on the Hire of Ross Hodge..

The coaching search has come to an end, and for Wren Baker’s sake, hopefully, it stays that way for at least a decade. On Wednesday, West Virginia officially announced Ross Hodge as the new men’s basketball head coach.

Baker initially seemed to have struck gold with Darian DeVries, who had an impressive first season that included three wins over top-10 teams. However, just a year later, DeVries used West Virginia as a stepping stone, leaving Baker scrambling to fill the position once again.

Among those weighing in on the hire was prominent donor Ken Kendrick, owner of MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, who shared his thoughts on social media:

“Over my 25 years of hiring professional coaches, I’ve learned that both competence and character matter. I hope Ross Hodge brings both to WVU!”

Mountaineer fans were already frustrated after the team’s controversial NCAA Tournament snub, and DeVries’ sudden departure only made matters worse. Donors shared their disappointment, especially given that DeVries had claimed in his Indiana introductory press conference that he had “intentions” of staying long-term at WVU.

Now, West Virginia is searching for both stability and success, and the hope is that Hodge will be the one to provide both.
