Bam Adebayo appears to have shaken off a recent dip in form just in time to anchor the Miami Heat against the visiting Boston Celtics on Thursday night.
After struggling through an eight-game stretch in which he averaged 10.9 points while shooting 36.8 percent, Adebayo delivered a statement performance on Tuesday. He erupted for a game-high 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting in Miami’s 127–121 win over the Phoenix Suns, including 13 straight Heat points during a dominant fourth-quarter run.
“He’s our engine and the heartbeat of this team,” said Heat reserve Jaime Jaquez Jr., who expressed relief and confidence in seeing Adebayo return to form.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra credited Adebayo’s defensive effort for setting the stage for his offensive breakout, suggesting the big night was a product of persistence and competitiveness on both ends of the floor.
The outing also carried historical significance, as Adebayo moved into second place on Miami’s all-time scoring list with 9,461 points, narrowly surpassing Alonzo Mourning. Dwyane Wade remains the franchise’s leading scorer by a wide margin.
Miami’s only concern from the Suns game was a shoulder injury to starting point guard Davion Mitchell, who is listed as doubtful after absorbing a hard screen. Spoelstra also addressed the evolving partnership between Tyler Herro and newcomer Norman Powell, emphasizing patience as the duo continues to develop on-court chemistry.
Boston arrives in Miami searching for answers after a sudden downturn. Following a strong run of five wins in six games, the Celtics were held under 100 points in back-to-back losses, including a narrow defeat to Indiana. Head coach Joe Mazzulla focused postgame attention on what he believed was a missed illegal screen late in that contest.
Jaylen Brown, one of the league’s top scorers this season, missed the Pacers game due to back spasms, further compounding Boston’s issues. Still, the Celtics own a recent victory over Miami, having won 129–116 in their only previous meeting this season. Derrick White led that effort with 33 points, while Brown contributed a near triple-double.
White has quietly been one of Boston’s most consistent contributors, posting strong all-around numbers and helping stabilize the team in the absence of Jayson Tatum, who remains sidelined for the season with an Achilles injury. Payton Pritchard has also embraced a larger role, starting every game this season and producing career-best averages in both scoring and assists as he adjusts to full-time starter responsibilities.
The matchup at Kaseya Center sets up as a measuring stick for both teams Miami hoping Adebayo’s resurgence continues, and Boston looking to halt its recent slide.
