I learned from the best: Olympic champion Grant Holloway gives Christian Coleman his flowers for being the greatest in the sport..

Five-time world champion Grant Holloway acknowledged the impact of learning from Christian Coleman to improve his start and speed as the best 60m hurdler in history.

Olympic champion Grant Holloway has praised Christian Coleman as the greatest 60m sprinter in history and credited him for influencing his own career.

During the USATF Indoor Championships press conference, Holloway, the 60m hurdles world record holder who has remained unbeaten in the event since 2014, shared how he studied Coleman’s technique to improve his own starts. “When I first came onto the scene, there was this guy running 9.7s at the 2019 World Championships—Christian Coleman. A lot of my film study, technique, and swagger come from him. Christian is the best starter the world has ever seen, so why not learn from the best?” said Holloway.

Coleman has built an impressive career, holding the 60m world record of 6.34s set in 2018, running the sixth-fastest 100m time of 9.76s, and earning two world titles. He also remains the only athlete to have defeated Usain Bolt twice before the Jamaican legend retired. Recognizing Coleman’s unmatched ability off the blocks, Holloway acknowledged the need to adapt his approach due to their height differences.

“I’m a bit taller, which comes with its own challenges, but you have to add your own style to make it work,” Holloway explained. “My start is naturally a little slower than Christian’s, but that’s where film study comes in. Regardless of your height or block strength, you need to develop your own formula.”

Holloway went on to win his second US indoor title, matching his world-leading time of 7.36s and extending his unbeaten streak. Cameron Murray placed second with a personal best of 7.41s, while Johnny Brackins secured third with a PB of 7.43s. All three athletes earned their spots on Team USA for the World Indoor Championships in March.
