Alabama Lands Four-Star Edge Rusher Jamarion Matthews for 2026 Class

Alabama football bolstered its 2026 recruiting class on Friday with the addition of four-star defensive end Jamarion Matthews. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3Recruits, Matthews chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Florida State, LSU, and Clemson.

The Gainesville, Georgia native stands at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. Ranked No. 199 nationally and the No. 17 edge rusher in his class per 247Sports’ Composite rankings, Matthews is also considered Georgia’s No. 26 overall prospect.

In addition to Alabama, Matthews received offers from several top programs, including Penn State, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Arkansas. He becomes the Tide’s third commitment for the 2026 cycle, joining four-star athlete Zyan Gibson and three-star defensive lineman Chris Booker. Currently, Alabama’s class ranks No. 32 nationally but is expected to rise as more commitments roll in.

“I love the atmosphere and the energy of the fans and players at Bama,” Matthews told On3.

Matthews has been closely following Alabama’s program, having attended the 2024 Iron Bowl and making multiple unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa, per On3. His commitment further strengthens Alabama’s defensive depth under new leadership as the team builds toward the future.
