Several top American track and field athletes, including Noah Lyles, Tara Davis-Woodhall, and Christian Coleman, will not be defending their World Indoor Championship medals in 2025. Coleman and Davis-Woodhall secured gold medals at last year’s event, while Lyles earned silver, but all three have opted out of this year’s competition after choosing not to declare for the 2025 U.S. Indoor Championships.
In addition to Lyles, Davis-Woodhall, and Coleman, several other notable American athletes have also decided to forgo the indoor season. Bryce Hoppel, Ryan Crouser, Elle St. Pierre, Cole Hocker, Monae’ Nichols, Yared Nuguse, and Shelby McEwen have all declined to participate in the U.S. Indoor Championships, thereby missing out on the chance to compete at the World Indoors.
The absence of these elite athletes will undoubtedly be felt, as they have all played significant roles in recent international competitions. However, several American stars are ready to step up and defend their titles. Leading the charge are Grant Holloway, Sam Kendricks, Hobbs Kessler, Alexis Holmes, Nikki Hiltz, Katie Moon, Chase Jackson, and Emily Mackay, all of whom have declared for the U.S. Indoor Championships and are expected to compete at the World Indoors.
With a mix of experienced champions and rising talents, the U.S. team will aim to maintain its strong presence on the global stage despite the notable absences. Fans will be eager to see how these athletes perform and whether new stars will emerge in the absence of household names like Lyles, Davis-Woodhall, and Coleman.
