The Indiana Fever kept their momentum rolling in Game 1 of the WNBA Semifinals on September 21, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 89-73 on the road.
Despite the Aces entering the matchup as the league’s hottest team in recent months, the Fever looked in control from start to finish. Head coach Stephanie White put together a masterful plan, particularly in limiting 2025 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, who managed just 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting, though she also grabbed 13 rebounds.
On the other end, Kelsey Mitchell once again carried Indiana, exploding for 34 points and knocking down four shots from deep. Earlier in the day, Mitchell was announced as fifth in MVP voting, collecting four fourth-place and 48 fifth-place votes for 93 total points. Teammate Aliyah Boston followed closely behind with one fourth-place and two fifth-place votes.
The Fever’s postseason surge is even more remarkable given they are without star guard Caitlin Clark, who remains sidelined for the season after an injury. Clark, who finished fourth in MVP voting last year as a rookie, has been a constant presence on the bench and showed her support for Mitchell after the win with a simple post on X: “Kelsey unreal.” The message racked up 70,000 views in under 30 minutes.
Fellow sidelined teammate Sophie Cunningham also chimed in, reacting to the victory with a one-word post: “sheeeeeeesh.”
While the series is far from over, Indiana’s Game 1 triumph not only stole home-court advantage but also sent a statement. The Fever will remain in Las Vegas for Game 2 on September 23 before shifting the series to Indianapolis for two games next week.
