MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As the West Virginia University women’s basketball team ramps up preparations for the 2025 season, head coach Mark Kellogg has announced a new addition to his coaching staff. Kasondra McKay has been hired to serve as an assistant coach and the program’s Director of Recruiting, bringing a fresh perspective and a proven track record to the Mountaineers.

McKay, known for her dynamic presence on the recruiting trail and her strong player development skills, steps into a dual-role that will see her contribute both on the court and behind the scenes as the Mountaineers look to build on recent momentum. The announcement came earlier this week as the program continues finalizing its preparations for the upcoming campaign.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kasondra to the Mountaineer family,” said Kellogg in a statement. “She is an energetic and passionate coach who has a deep understanding of the game and a strong commitment to building relationships. Her work ethic and recruiting experience will be invaluable as we continue to build a championship culture here at WVU.”

McKay comes to Morgantown with several years of coaching and recruiting experience at the Division I level. Most recently, she served as an assistant coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where she was instrumental in player development and recruiting across multiple regions. Prior to that, she held roles at smaller programs where she helped spearhead recruiting efforts that brought in all-conference-caliber talent.

In her new role, McKay will work closely with the coaching staff in developing the team’s backcourt, assist in scouting and game preparation, and oversee the Mountaineers’ national recruiting strategy. As Director of Recruiting, she will be tasked with identifying and attracting top-tier high school and transfer talent, aligning with WVU’s mission of competing at the highest level in the Big 12 Conference.

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to join Coach Kellogg and the Mountaineer family,” McKay said. “West Virginia has a rich basketball tradition and a passionate fan base. I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running—both in the gym and on the road—and helping to bring in elite student-athletes who represent the spirit and toughness of this program.”

McKay’s addition comes as WVU aims to build off a competitive showing last season under Kellogg’s leadership. With several key returners and promising newcomers, expectations are high in Morgantown for a strong campaign ahead. The addition of McKay is expected to bolster the program’s recruiting reach and offer a fresh voice in practice and player development sessions.

With the season fast approaching, McKay’s immediate focus will be integrating into the coaching staff and beginning work on shaping future recruiting classes. Her hiring marks another strategic move by Kellogg as he continues assembling a staff that reflects his vision for sustained success at WVU.

West Virginia opens its 2025 season in November, with non-conference matchups on the horizon before diving into a competitive Big 12 slate. The Mountaineers will be counting on their expanded coaching staff to guide a talented roster through a demanding schedule.
