Mick Schumacher’s chances of returning to Formula 1 have received a fresh boost with Cadillac preparing to join the F1 grid. The German driver, currently racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for Alpine, gave an optimistic update about his potential F1 return during a recent interview with Motorsport.com.
“Yes, of course, discussions are ongoing,” Schumacher confirmed, adding that talks have been “very positive.” He also praised the quality of personnel already brought onboard by Cadillac: “They’ve hired some fantastic people. It’s an honour to be in discussions with them and to be considered.”
Schumacher, son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, last raced in the sport with Haas in the 2021 and 2022 seasons before being replaced by Nico Hülkenberg. Since then, he has remained active, including completing several simulator sessions for Cadillac.
Cadillac Boss Comments on Mick Schumacher
Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon also weighed in on the possibility of signing Schumacher. Speaking on the High Performance podcast, Lowdon said: “Yeah, we’re talking to Mick. He’s great, very likeable and experienced. While his F1 stint was a few years ago, he’s stayed current and engaged. We like that about him.”
Lowdon noted that Schumacher is well-acquainted with the team and is one of several candidates being considered. “He’s definitely on our list, but the list is quite long,” he added.
Cadillac has not yet confirmed its driver lineup for the 2026 Formula 1 season, but Schumacher is not the only name in contention. Veterans like Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez are also strongly linked with the new General Motors-backed team.
