Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will take part in the WNBA 3-point contest on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, her home court, despite recent injury concerns. Clark left Tuesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun late in the fourth quarter after appearing to tweak her right groin. Fever coach Stephanie White shared postgame that Clark “felt a little something in her groin” and would be evaluated, leaving her All-Star Weekend status uncertain.
The decision to compete comes after months of anticipation, as fans hoped to see Clark – known for her long-range shooting – make her 3-point contest debut. She had previously declined to participate in last year’s event, citing the need for rest and mental recovery following her whirlwind rookie season. “I need a break,” Clark said at the time, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing her health.
Clark also turned down an opportunity to join the NBA vs. WNBA 3-point contest during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco this past February. Her agents from Excel Sports explained then that she preferred to make her debut in front of her home crowd in Indianapolis.
Clark joins defending champion Allisha Gray, New York’s Sabrina Ionescu, rookie Sonia Citron of Washington, and Kelsey Plum of Los Angeles in the 2025 Starry 3-point contest. However, Clark enters the event in the midst of a shooting slump, hitting just 28.9% from beyond the arc this season down from 34.4% last year. Injuries, including quad and groin issues, have impacted her performance and limited her court time.
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend festivities begin at 8 p.m. Friday on ESPN, featuring both the Starry 3-point contest and the KIA Skills Challenge. The Skills Competition lineup includes Natasha Cloud, Skylar Diggins, Allisha Gray, Erica Wheeler, and Courtney Williams.
