Stephanie White Details Physicality Caitlin Clark Faces After Fever-Sun Game.

Caitlin Clark Suffers Groin Injury Ahead of All-Star Weekend.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark sustained a groin injury in the final minute of the team’s July 15 win over the Connecticut Sun. While there’s been no official word on the extent of the injury, it’s now doubtful that Clark will take part in any WNBA All-Star Weekend events a setback made more disappointing given that she was announced earlier that same day as a contestant in the three-point contest.

The injury wasn’t the result of any specific contact or foul during the game, but considering how aggressively Clark is often defended, questions are being raised about whether the consistent physical pressure has contributed to what now appears to be her third muscle-related issue in the past two months and fourth since April.

When asked about the physical toll Clark has endured, Fever head coach Stephanie White offered insight into how she’s being targeted. “There’s a level of physicality that teams are allowed to use against her,” White said in a team interview. “I saw it as an opposing coach, and now I see it as her coach. I can’t fully explain why, but it’s happening. We need to help her adjust and find ways to use that pressure to her advantage.”

White also noted that the overall level of physicality in the league has risen significantly in recent years. With a tough matchup against the reigning WNBA champions, the New York Liberty, set for July 16, Clark is expected to miss the game due to the injury.
