South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley hit the recruiting trail on Friday, making a stop in Louisville, Kentucky, to attend the Nike EYBL Run 4 the Roses showcase. While there, she watched five-star standout Olivia Vukosa, a key player for the Philly Rise squad, compete in a morning game.
Vukosa, known as “Big O,” has been a standout performer throughout the spring and summer, and she continued her impressive run during the showcase.
Earlier this year, the Christ the King Regional High School star named South Carolina among her top seven schools, joining UConn, Kentucky, Texas, LSU, North Carolina, and Ohio State. In a conversation with On3’s Talia Goodman, Vukosa shared that she has a solid bond with the USC coaching staff, saying, “Coach Staley is amazing. We don’t talk all the time, but when we do, it feels like we’re just picking up where we left off. She and her staff bring such good energy.”
Though she has announced an official visit to LSU, Vukosa has yet to confirm a visit to South Carolina. At 6-foot-5, she projects as either a power forward or center at the collegiate level, boasting a rare mix of size and skill. She is dominant in the paint, has a smooth mid-range jumper, and can occasionally stretch the floor with three-point shooting.
According to On3’s industry rankings, Vukosa is rated the No. 5 overall prospect in the nation, No. 2 among power forwards, and the top player in New York.
