In a major upset at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, 20-year-old American Elizabeth Lemley captured the women’s moguls gold medal after defending champion Jakara Anthony made a costly mistake in the final.
Anthony, aiming to become the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic moguls titles, appeared on course for history. The Australian topped qualification and led after the first final round, where the field was reduced from 20 athletes to eight. However, skiing last in the निर्णative run, she lost control following her opening jump, ending her title defence hopes.
Lemley capitalized with a superb run, scoring 82.30 to lead a stunning U.S. one-two finish. Teammate Jaelin Kauf secured silver with 80.77, earning her second Olympic silver medal in moguls.
France’s Perrine Laffont, the PyeongChang 2018 champion, claimed bronze with 78.00 after narrowly advancing to the final in eighth place. Her score set the early benchmark in the medal round, but only the two Americans surpassed it.
For Lemley, a former 2022 junior world champion and two-time Youth Olympic Games gold medallist in 2024, the victory marks a remarkable achievement on her senior Olympic debut.
