Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo was officially named to the 12-player Team USA roster for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, joining forces once again with former Fighting Irish teammate Olivia Miles. The dynamic backcourt duo from South Bend has been pivotal in leading the U.S. team’s charge toward the gold medal in Chile.
After a sluggish start against Colombia in the group stage, Hidalgo found her rhythm in a dominant semifinal performance against Canada. She posted 19 points, four assists, and four steals in a 65–53 win that secured Team USA’s spot in the final.
Her display sparked a variety of fan reactions on Instagram:
“The queens of North America, I love it!!”
“HIDAWGO!”
“Y’all keep sleeping on Hannah if y’all want to.”
“Carried the team on her back.”
“Hannah is that girl.”
“Hannah HiDAWGo.”
Hidalgo, a former Wooden Award finalist, has been one of Team USA’s standout performers throughout the tournament. Known for her intensity on both ends of the floor, she leads the tournament in steals with 20 across six games.
Following a commanding 108–47 win over host nation Chile, Hidalgo expressed her excitement and determination to finish strong:
“It was so great, the crowd was so great. I’m super excited and more dubs to come.”
Team USA’s path to the final included victories over Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. Hidalgo has been instrumental throughout, with the U.S. only trailing at halftime once in the semifinal against Canada.
Reflecting on her journey, Hidalgo said:
“I am so blessed. I give all the glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s amazing to be in this position. We got one more to go. We’re gonna be happy today, and it’s on to the next.”
Team USA now turns its focus to the final, where they’ll face defending champions Brazil in a bid to reclaim the AmeriCup title for the first time since 2021. With Hidalgo and Miles leading the charge, the U.S. will be aiming to bring the crown back home.
