Rathdrum, Idaho – June 28, 2025 — Chase Jackson etched her name into the history books once again, breaking the American record in the women’s shot put with a remarkable throw of 20.95 meters (68 feet 8 ¾ inches) at the Iron Wood Classic on Saturday.

The record-setting throw came on Jackson’s first attempt of the day, sending a message to the field and the track and field world that she is at the peak of her powers. This performance surpasses her own previous national record of 20.76 meters, set in 2023, and marks the longest women’s shot put throw globally since 2013.

Held in Rathdrum, Idaho, the Iron Wood Classic is a prestigious meet for elite throwers, and Jackson’s throw was the undisputed highlight of the day. The meet also featured top American competitors, including Maggie Ewen, who finished second with a strong 19.69m, and Jaida Ross, who placed third with 19.62m.

Jackson’s 20.95m effort is just one centimeter shy of the North American record of 20.96m, set by Cuba’s Belsy Laza in 1992. While the continental mark still stands, Jackson’s throw now ranks among the top 35 performances in women’s shot put history, and it solidifies her status as a global force in the sport.

“I’ve been focused on executing technically and staying relaxed in big moments,” Jackson said after her record-breaking performance. “I didn’t expect it on the first throw, but I knew something big was possible today.”

The achievement is especially significant given Jackson’s journey over the past year. After a disappointing showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she failed to qualify for the final, Jackson bounced back with determination. In early 2025, she set a new indoor American record with a throw of 20.24 meters and followed it with wins at several major international meets, including Shanghai and Lausanne.

Saturday’s performance also further cements Jackson’s dominance heading into the U.S. Olympic Trials and the 2025 World Championships later this summer. With multiple 20-meter-plus throws under her belt this season, she remains unbeaten in outdoor competitions and is widely considered the favorite for gold in any field.

The Iron Wood Classic, a World Athletics Bronze-level meet, has become a proving ground for American throwers, offering strong competition and visibility. Alongside Jackson’s standout throw, DeAnna Price took victory in the women’s hammer with 76.82m, while Payton Otterdahl led the men’s shot put with a throw of 22.09m.

With momentum clearly on her side and the national record now extended, all eyes will be on Jackson as she continues her season. She is expected to compete next at the Prefontaine Classic on July 5, where she could once again challenge both the continental and world records.
