WVU Cross Country and Track & Field Rank 9th Nationally in Program of the Year Award
The West Virginia University cross country and track & field programs have earned a No. 9 national ranking in the prestigious Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
This award recognizes the most successful collegiate athletic programs across an entire academic year, encompassing cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons. A team’s ranking is determined by its performance at the respective national championships for each sport, with the lowest cumulative score across all three championships winning the award. To be considered, a team must qualify for all three national championships.
WVU coach Sean Cleary expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating that the ninth-place ranking reflects their “incredibly consistent” performance throughout the year. He lauded the team’s dedication and the high level of performance they maintained over the past ten months.
The Mountaineers’ strong showing was built on impressive finishes in each discipline:
Cross Country: 2nd place (2 program of the year points)
Indoor Track & Field: 23rd place (24.5 program of the year points)
Outdoor Track & Field: 24th place (24.5 program of the year points)
In total, West Virginia accumulated 51 points, securing their top-10 national ranking.
