This initiative, part of a new project called “Bolt Safe Havens,” aims to provide not only housing, but also comprehensive support systems for vulnerable young people. The shelters will offer access to meals, clothing, mental health services, and educational resources. Bolt’s goal is to provide more than just a bed — he wants to create environments where young people can regain stability and rebuild their lives.
Speaking at a press conference in Kingston, Jamaica, Bolt emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that supported his rise from a small town in Trelawny Parish to the global stage. “I’ve always believed that my speed was a gift, and now it’s time to use that gift to help others get back on their feet,” Bolt said. “There are too many young people sleeping on the streets with no hope, and I want to change that.”
The project is being launched in collaboration with local government agencies, housing authorities, and international non-profits focused on youth empowerment and homelessness prevention. Several properties in Kingston, Montego Bay, and Port of Spain are already undergoing renovations, with the first of the shelters expected to open by late 2025.
Each home will house up to 20 youths at a time, with a rotating staff of counselors, social workers, and volunteers. The program will also incorporate mentorship from former athletes, artists, and educators to inspire the residents and guide them towards long-term independence.
Bolt’s foundation, The Usain Bolt Foundation, which has long focused on creating opportunities through education and cultural development, is at the forefront of managing the initiative. The foundation has already begun raising additional funds and receiving donations from private donors, including notable names in sports and entertainment who are eager to join the cause.
