Former UConn Huskies standout Paige Bueckers has added another major honor to her illustrious college résumé, being named the 2025 Honda Sport Award winner for women’s basketball, as announced by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards on Monday.
This esteemed award, presented annually to the top female athletes across 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, recognizes Bueckers as the premier women’s basketball player in the nation and places her among the finalists for the prestigious 2025 Honda Cup. In her final collegiate season, she led UConn to a dominant national title run, with victories over Arkansas State, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, and a commanding 82–59 win over South Carolina in the championship game. She averaged 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, excelling with elite efficiency and strong leadership.
Selected first overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Bueckers leaves UConn as the school’s all-time leader in scoring average (19.8 ppg) and third in total points (2,439). Over her career, she led the Huskies to four Final Fours, two national championship appearances, eight Big East titles, and one NCAA Championship. A three-time Big East Player of the Year and multiple-time Big East Tournament MVP, she was also the first freshman to sweep all major national player of the year awards in 2021. She concludes her college journey with nearly every major individual accolade, including the 2025 Wade Trophy.
Bueckers is now the thirteenth UConn player to receive the Honda Sport Award, joining the ranks of legends like Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, and Breanna Stewart. Drafted No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings, she now looks ahead to her professional career. Still, her final season at UConn will be remembered not just for the hardware, but for the legacy of a generational player who consistently rose to the occasion, delivering the Huskies their twelfth national title.
