The women’s college basketball community was taken by surprise on April 11 when it was reported that MiLaysia Fulwiley, a standout guard for the South Carolina Gamecocks, had entered the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons under coach Dawn Staley.
Though fans had speculated throughout the 2024–25 season that Fulwiley might consider transferring largely due to her limited playing time and lack of a starting role there had been no public signs of dissatisfaction until the news broke. Despite the swirling rumors and widespread conversation among media and fans, Fulwiley herself had remained silent on the matter until April 17.
On that day, she made her decision official with a post on Instagram. In her message, Fulwiley expressed gratitude to her hometown of Columbia, SC, as well as to Coach Staley, the Gamecocks staff, her teammates, and fans for their support and the memories shared over the past two years. She wrote, “After thoughtful consideration, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. I’m excited for what’s next and grateful for the continued love and support.”
Now, all eyes are on where Fulwiley will land next, with an announcement expected in the near future. Until then, speculation about her next move will likely continue to swirl.
