In Spokane, Washington, the UConn women’s basketball team secured a spot in the Final Four with a commanding 78-64 win over No. 1 seed USC in the Elite Eight. Freshman Sarah Strong led the charge, delivering her best postseason performance with 22 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and four assists in her first full 40-minute game.
Paige Bueckers complemented Strong’s efforts, contributing a game-high 31 points, along with six assists, four steals, and two blocks. Kaitlyn Chen also added 15 points for the Huskies.
UConn’s defensive intensity played a crucial role, forcing 11 turnovers in the first half and limiting USC’s three-point shooting. Even when USC cut the lead to five in the third quarter, the Huskies responded with key plays, including a strong fourth-quarter performance from veteran Aubrey Griffin.
With this win, UConn advances to its second consecutive and 24th overall Final Four appearance. The team will travel to Tampa, Florida, to face No. 1 overall seed UCLA in the national semifinals on Friday. The other Final Four matchup features South Carolina against Texas. The winners will compete for the championship on Sunday.
