Alex Ward didn’t let an injured hand stop him from earning an Alabama football scholarship. The 2027 defensive back from Marietta, Georgia, impressed Alabama’s defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist during a June camp despite playing with a torn tendon in his middle finger and a cast on one hand. Ward even managed to snag an interception during one-on-one drills. His talent stood out, leading him to commit to Alabama’s 2027 class during his first game-day visit at Bryant-Denny Stadium before Alabama faced Mercer. For Ward, the Crimson Tide felt like family from the start.
Ward is no stranger to high-level football. His oldest brother, Jace, plays linebacker at Jackson State, while his other brother, Christian, is a highly sought-after 2026 wide receiver with offers from Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. Their father, Jasen Ward, envisioned Alex’s future in football early on, recognizing his athleticism, quick reflexes, and strong build. Alex grew into a dedicated student of the game, studying opponents closely and refining his skills.
Mentored by former NFL cornerback Josh Norman, Ward understands that football is as much mental as it is physical. Walton High School coach Daniel Brunner sees Ward as one of the top cornerback prospects in the country, praising his ability to turn breakups into interceptions and lock down his side of the field. Alabama shares that belief, with Linguist’s straightforward coaching style set to help Ward reach his full potential.
Ward’s early commitment to Alabama is driven by his passion for football and the desire to showcase his talent at the highest level. With two seasons left at Walton, both his high school coach and Alabama’s staff see limitless potential in Ward’s future, possibly even as a freshman contributor for the Crimson Tide.
