‘An absolute genius’ – Ronnie O’Sullivan branded snooker GOAT by rival after historic 153.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been hailed as both a “genius” and the greatest player of all time by Mark Selby following his remarkable 153 break at the World Open.

The seven-time world champion produced the historic moment during his victory over Ryan Day, surpassing the traditional maximum of 147 thanks to a free ball. His break featured 14 blacks and two pinks before he cleared the remaining colours, finishing just two points short of the theoretical maximum of 155.

The achievement drew widespread admiration, with Selby insisting it was fitting that O’Sullivan was the one to accomplish it. He described the feat as extraordinary, calling his rival the sport’s all-time great and praising his unmatched brilliance and contribution to snooker.

O’Sullivan, now 50, also reacted with humour, admitting he deliberately avoided attempting another black to preserve the milestone. He noted the excitement of potentially becoming the first player to record a break above 147 on television, adding that the thrill of such moments continues to drive his performances.
