O’Sullivan signs up for World Seniors Championship.

Seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan will make his first appearance at the World Seniors Snooker Championship when it takes place at the Crucible Theatre in May.

The seniors event gets under way on 6 May, just two days after the conclusion of the sport’s flagship tournament, the World Snooker Championship. O’Sullivan, 50, will be attempting to secure a historic eighth world crown there before quickly turning his attention to the seniors competition.

Recent amendments to the eligibility criteria now allow players aged 45 and above who are ranked inside the world’s top 64 to compete. Although O’Sullivan has missed several events this season, he remains 11th in the current world rankings. His latest world title triumph came in 2022.

Four-time seniors champion Jimmy White, the most decorated player in the history of the event, is also expected to feature in this year’s tournament.

The field will additionally include 1997 world champion Ken Doherty, 2015 world champion Stuart Bingham, 12-time women’s world champion Reanne Evans and reigning British Seniors Open champion Joe Perry.

With an accomplished line-up assembled, O’Sullivan will aim to add a seniors crown to his extensive list of achievements, potentially claiming two world titles within the span of a single week.
