Ronnie O’Sullivan has insisted he will respond positively to his recent setback against Ali Carter when he returns to action at next week’s World Grand Prix in Hong Kong. The seven-time world champion was beaten 5–3 by Carter in the last 32 of the German Masters, marking just his second loss to his long-time rival in 22 meetings. O’Sullivan is set to begin his World Grand Prix campaign against Joe O’Connor on February 4, with the tournament running from February 3–8 and broadcast on TNT Sports and discovery+.
After the match in Berlin, Carter suggested O’Sullivan appeared not to be enjoying himself, hinting that the veteran may be at a different stage of his career. O’Sullivan, however, has played down those concerns and expressed his excitement about returning to Hong Kong, where he has fond memories, including winning the Hong Kong Masters in 2022 in front of a record crowd. Posting on social media, he promised fans he would bring both his cue and his best form as he targets a fourth World Grand Prix title.
