Samson Gash, a 2026 athlete from Novi (Mich.) Detroit Catholic Central, had previously visited West Virginia to explore the school. Now, he has received a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers football program.
Gash, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds, toured the campus with his team a few months ago, which allowed him to begin building relationships with the coaching staff. It was wide receivers coach Ryan Garrett who ultimately extended the offer.
“He really liked my game film and the way I make plays,” Gash said. “He also appreciates my versatility, especially given my size.”
A three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, Gash is being recruited as a wide receiver but also has the potential to contribute as a return specialist due to his playmaking skills on special teams. Last season, he racked up 1,700 yards and scored 21 touchdowns. The West Virginia offer is particularly meaningful to Gash because of the program’s reputation and history of developing talent.
“When they offered me, I felt really happy and relieved,” he said.
He’s scheduled to take an official visit to West Virginia from June 6-8, with another trip to Cincinnati planned for June 20-22.
Gash said he’s looking for a program that balances strong academics with a supportive, family-like atmosphere.
“I want to play for a great coach,” he said. “I’m looking for strong academics and a school that feels like family.”
