American sprinter Noah Lyles has agreed to face Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill in an upcoming race, settling on a distance between 40 yards and 100 meters to accommodate the NFL star. Lyles made the compromise after Hill suggested the Olympic gold medalist was hesitant to race him over 40 yards.
The friendly rivalry began after the Paris Olympics, where Hill claimed he could outrun Lyles, even mocking the sprinter’s second-place finish in the men’s 200m final. The two have since exchanged playful jabs, building excitement for their head-to-head competition.
In a joint interview with People magazine, Lyles and Hill confirmed the race will take place in the spring or summer, ahead of Lyles’ participation in the U.S. National Championships in July. Hill teased Lyles, claiming the sprinter was afraid of losing the shorter 40-yard dash, saying, “He already knew he was gonna lose that off the jump.”
Lyles responded by explaining his decision to shorten the distance, stating, “I did that not to embarrass you. If it were 100 meters, it’d be a blowout, so we gotta meet in the middle.”
Hill had previously commented on Lyles’ Olympic performance and criticized his remarks about NBA champions calling themselves “world champions,” asserting that Lyles should stick to discussing track. Confident in his speed, Hill remarked, “I would beat Noah Lyles not by a lot, but I would beat him.”
Adding to the buzz, popular streamer IShowSpeed, who previously raced Lyles in a 50m sprint after being challenged by MrBeast, has also called for a rematch with the Olympic champion, further fueling excitement for the upcoming face-off.
