Noah Lyles Responds to Tyreek Hill’s Second Challenge, Says ‘Everybody wants to race the Fastest Man’.
The buzz between Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles and NFL superstar Tyreek Hill is heating up once again after Hill renewed his public challenge to race the self-proclaimed “fastest man in the world.” And Lyles has responded with characteristic confidence:
> “Everyone wants to race the fastest man. But I don’t just race for fun — I race for legacy.”
This marks the second time Hill has publicly called out Lyles, reviving a back-and-forth that has captivated both track and football fans. Hill, a six-time NFL Pro Bowler known for his breakaway speed, originally issued the challenge in 2024 following Lyles’ viral remarks about world championship titles being exclusive to global athletics. The remark seemed to ruffle feathers in the NFL community, prompting Hill to tweet:
> “Let’s line it up. 50 yards. Any time, anywhere.”
Lyles, who won gold in the 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympics and holds the American record in the 200m (19.31 seconds), initially dismissed the challenge, suggesting Hill was “chasing clout.” Now, after Hill doubled down on his call-out this week, Lyles responded during an interview with CITIUS MAG, stating
> “Everybody wants to race the fastest man. It’s flattering, honestly. But I take racing seriously. If we’re going to do it, let’s do it right — sanctioned, timed, and for real stakes.”
Despite the social media exchanges and media interest, no official race has been scheduled. Talks of a Times Square exhibition in summer 2025 fell through earlier this year, reportedly due to sponsorship and scheduling conflicts. Lyles later confirmed the cancellation:
> “I was ready. But this isn’t backyard football — if we’re racing, it’s got to be professional.”
The friendly rivalry has since taken on a life of its own. In February, Lyles trolled Hill after winning the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix by holding up a sign that read, “Tyreek could never.” Hill, known for his sense of humor, fired back on social media with a laughing emoji and a short message:
> “Keep that same energy.”
Though Hill is widely regarded as one of the fastest players ever to play in the NFL — reportedly clocking a 4.29-second 40-yard dash — few experts believe he would beat Lyles in a straight sprint over 60 or 100 meters. Still, fans remain intrigued.
One viral comment summed it up:
> “Tyreek is quick, but Lyles is world-class. If this race happens, it’s track vs. turf — and I’m betting on track.
Whether the highly anticipated race ever materializes remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Noah Lyles isn’t dodging the spotlight — he’s owning it.
> “You want the crown? Come take it,” Lyles concluded.
