WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — College basketball fans are in for an early-season treat as two storied programs, West Virginia and Duke, will face off in a high-profile non-conference matchup at the inaugural Greenbrier Tip-Off. The game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, at the historic Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Billed as one of the premier non-conference games of the 2025–26 season, the contest marks a rare neutral-site showdown between two programs known for passionate fanbases, deep tournament histories, and high expectations. This will be the first time the Mountaineers and Blue Devils have met since the 2010 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, where West Virginia prevailed en route to a Final Four berth.

The Greenbrier Tip-Off is part of a new initiative to bring top-tier college basketball to unique and iconic venues across the country. With its picturesque setting and rich history, the Greenbrier Resort offers a distinctive backdrop for what promises to be a high-energy battle.

“This is more than just a game—it’s an event,” said Greenbrier Tip-Off executive director Rachel Simmons. “Bringing together two powerhouse programs like Duke and West Virginia in a setting like the Greenbrier makes for something truly special. It’s an opportunity to showcase elite basketball in a one-of-a-kind environment.”

For West Virginia, the matchup serves as an early test under second-year head coach Darian DeVries, who has energized the program with an up-tempo style and a focus on disciplined defense. The Mountaineers are coming off a rebuilding season but return several key players, including standout guard Jalen Bridges and freshman phenom Marcus Hale, who is already drawing NBA attention.

Meanwhile, Duke enters the season with championship aspirations under head coach Jon Scheyer. With a top-five recruiting class and returning stars like Tyrese Proctor and Mark Mitchell, the Blue Devils are expected to be a Final Four contender. The Greenbrier Tip-Off provides a chance to fine-tune their rotation against a battle-tested opponent before heading into ACC play.

“This game is going to tell us a lot about where we are,” Scheyer said in a press release. “West Virginia plays hard, they’re physical, and Coach DeVries has them believing. Playing in a venue like the Greenbrier adds to the challenge, but also makes it a memorable experience for our players and fans.”

The event is expected to draw a mix of local fans and traveling alumni, with tickets reportedly in high demand. The Greenbrier’s 2,500-seat sports complex will host the game, offering an intimate yet electric atmosphere rarely seen in high-level college basketball.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with national television coverage to be announced in the coming weeks. In addition to the marquee game, the Greenbrier Tip-Off will include community outreach programs, youth clinics, and fan experiences throughout the weekend.
